There is a Chinese proverb: 当局者迷,旁观者清。 It means "the spectators see the game better than the players."
When you are involved, it is difficult to stay objective, especially when you feel stuck and find answers in nowhere. This is the time you need a coach, someone who is professional enough to look at your issues objectively and give a new possibility to solve the problem.
In life, there is no absolute right or wrong side. You are the protagonist in your own story but might end up as a villain in others'. So, when you consult with a coach, he or she will point out your blind spot and provide you with tools and techniques to deal with it. In this way, you can move on and live your life powerfully.
That's why it is crucial to be coachable when you work with your coach. Be coachable, be willing to try anything your coach suggests, even if you don't like the idea, to find out whether it works for you or not.
Every coach and consultant has different ways of coaching, in addition to their industry-specific knowledge. You need to meet the one whose method matches with you to get the most out of your consultation.
So, how do you know if a coach is the right match for you?
The most effective way is to talk with him or her, or you can watch their videos and read the articles before going for paid services. Most professional coaches offer a free consultation session for this sole purpose − to see if you two are on the same frequency.
Be coachable! Think of your coach as an observer who points out things, for your benefit, that you have never noticed before.
